first quarter moon

A first quarter moon, the third of the eight phases of the moon. Depicts the moon as a cratered disk, with its right half lit by golden or silver lights, and the rest dark. Can be used to represent the moon, nighttime, outer space, and astronomy. Can also be used to express an enchanted or eerie feeling. See also "first quarter moon face". Not to be confused with 🌗, although their applications may overlap. Used as part of the moon emoji creep memo. Samsung's design once resembled a full moon with stars, previously shown as a first quarter moon in a night sky with stars.
